Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Sunday Readings

1st Reading/ Acts 1: 12- 14

A reading from the Book of Acts Barikh-Mar:

When they entered the city, they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. Amen.

2nd Reading/ Rom 16: 1-6, 16

A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to Romans Barikh-Mar.

I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is [also] a minister of the church at Cenchreae, that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the holy ones and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a benefactor to many and to me as well. Greet Prisca and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I am grateful but also all the churches of the Gentiles; greet also the church at their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who was the firstfruits in Asia for Christ. Greet Mary, who has worked hard for you. And Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

The grace and peace be with you all brothers. Amen.

Gospel Reading/Jn2: 12; Mt13: 53-57/ 12: 46- 50; Lk11: 27-28

A reading from the Holy Gospel according St John.

After this, Jesus and his mother, [his] brothers, and his disciples went down to Capernaum and stayed there only a few days. When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there. He came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, “Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honour except in his native place and in his own house.” While he was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers appeared outside, wishing to speak with him. [Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, asking to speak with you.”] But he said in reply to the one who told him, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.” While he was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

P: Glory be to God forever. All: Glory be to Christ Our Lord.

Prayers of the Faithful

Let us all stand with joy, and ask with confidence, saying,

O Lord, have mercy on us.

O Lord, we ask that you help us be like our Mother Mary throughout the journey of our faith and our actions. Lord have mercy.

O Lord, we ask that all human beings understand their divine vocation and care for their eternal destiny and thus be saved from evil, hostility, division and destruction. Lord have mercy.

O Lord, we ask that the members of our parish, present and absent, may realise the fact that they belong to Christ through the Church, and that this affiliation is deepened by their giving as testimony. Lord have mercy.
