Quote of The Week

And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us

2nd Sunday after Epiphany (Dinha)

20 January 2019

The Idea of Ritual:

The prayers of the second Sunday after epiphany present Christ as a high priest immersing in water to bless it to grant the holy spirit the grantor of new life. This is the life we received when we accepted Jesus in our heart and live his teaching every day.

Readings:

1st Reading / Num10: 29- 36

Please sit and listen to the Book of Numbers: Barikh-Mar

Moses said to Hobab, son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place concerning which the LORD has said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will be generous toward you, for the LORD has promised prosperity to Israel.” But he answered, “No, I will not come. I am going instead to the land of my birth.” Moses said, “Please, do not leave us; you know where we can camp in the wilderness, and you can serve as our guide. If you come with us, we will share with you the prosperity the LORD will bestow on us.” From the mountain of the LORD they made a journey of three days, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them for the three-day journey to seek out a resting place for them. And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day when they set out from camp. Whenever the ark set out, Moses would say, “Arise, O LORD, may your enemies be scattered, and may those who hate you flee before you.” And when it came to rest, he would say, “Bring back, O LORD, the myriads of Israel’s troops!” Amen

2nd Reading / Heb 3: 1- 8

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to Hebrews: Barikh-Mar.

Therefore, holy “brothers,” sharing in a heavenly calling, reflect on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was “faithful in [all] his house.” But he is worthy of more “glory” than Moses, as the founder of a house has more “honour” than the house itself. Every house is founded by someone, but the founder of all is God. Moses was “faithful in all his house” as a “servant” to testify to what would be spoken, but Christ was faithful as a son placed over his house. We are his house, if [only] we hold fast to our confidence and pride in our hope. Israel’s Infidelity a Warning. Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Oh, that today you would hear his voice. Amen.

Gospel Reading/ Jn 1: 1- 14

A reading from the Holy Gospel According to Saint John:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light but came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came to be through him, but the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision but of God. And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.

Priest: Glory be to God forever…PP: Glory be to the Christ Our Lord

Prayers of the Faithful

Let us all stand with joy and ask with confidence:

O Lord have mercy on us.

*O Lord, we ask you to enlighten our hearts and thoughts and to help us comprehend your teaching deeply so that we may live in your image. Lord have mercy.

*O Lord, we ask you to liberate us from the unawareness and falsity and to live in your light no matter the price. Lord have mercy.

*O Lord, we ask that all Christian leaders care about Christianity and share it as good news to humankind and to reunite the Attitudes for one witness and testimony of the gospel for the salvation of all. Lord have mercy.
