Year of mercy: St. Addai Youth visiting a local rest home
A special gathering (outside the regular weekly meetings) have been organised for St. Addai youth to visit a local rest home here in Auckland/New Zealand, Ignite Youth is the name that St. Addai youth is known by. As a reflection to Pope Francis year of mercy the youth visited a local rest home, also following the teachings of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew 25: 34-36
“Come, you who have been blessed by my Father! Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, because I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger, and you welcomed me. I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you took care of me. I was in prison, and you visited me.”
The youth were divided into small groups and were distributed around the rest home to spend time with the elderly. The youth engaged the elderly in various activities, e.g. very light physical activities, manicure, small talks and experiences shared by the elderly, some youth were also involved in preparing fruit for the elderly. The visit was sealed with a hymn along with the tunes of a piano that was played by one of the youth, finally Lord’s prayer “Our Father” was presented to the elderly in a form of a hymn, goodbyes were said, the elderly requested another visit from Ignite Youth in the not so distant future.
